World Rangers Day is a day set aside every 31st of July to celebrate rangers globally for their efforts towards protection of wildlife and their habitats. This year’s theme is “Rangers, Powering Transformative Conservation”, which closely aligned with the upcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress theme: “Powering Transformative Conservation”, which is schedule to take place at Abu- Dhabi, Dubai from 9th– 15th of October, 2025. Rangers as officials saddled with the responsibility of protecting wildlife sanctuaries, parks, or forest and or game reserves are always at the forefront of a global movement for transformative conservation. Mainly through designing efficient management strategies for nature conservation, combining traditional knowledge they gather from indigenous communities with modern technology. Kano zoological and wildlife management Agency (KAZOWMA) join in the celebrating the dedication, bravery, and passion of rangers around the globe which took place on the 20th of August 2025, at the Falgore Game Reserve Base Camp, Falgore Town, Doguwa L.G.A of Kano State. This year’s activities includes celebrating the rangers and awarding of the best Ranger of the year 2025 award to Mr Usman Musa Shagari as well as other awards of excellence to some of the staff of the agency, commissioning of ten patrol motorcycles purchased by his Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and distribution of seedlings to surrounding communities of the game reserve as a part of community-based conservation efforts of the agency to mitigate climate change impacts in the state.
